"The universe is written in the language of numbers"

Galileo

Numbers are all around us. They can be physically found almost everywhere on this planet connected to almost everything society has created and depends on. Most often used for calculating, identifying and accounting, numbers can also be translated into a language that goes beyond the information offered by its common use. This numerical language is similar in many ways to the English language and its twenty-six letters with the exception that the numerical alphabet has only ten characters consisting of numbers 0 through 9. The twenty-six-letter alphabet, with the arrangement and rearrangement of various letters can create a vehicle for communication via a common language. Numbers offer a form of communication using the same process.

In the ancient Pythagorean School, it was taught that every number represented a particular vibratory rate expressed through the physical world around us and that every letter had a numerical equivalent. Unfortunately, the esoteric teachings of the Pythagorean School have long since vanished from the academic community. The system of numerology that is offered in this article is one that is rarely practiced outside of a handful of students that were lucky enough to learn from the late Miss Marie C. Norris of Ft. Worth Texas. This system, as she described, was built on the ancient Jewish knowledge of the individual letter's meanings equated through numerical vibrations along with, "Some Pythagorean and Nostradamus techniques thrown in". Marie was born in the year 1900; she was introduced to this ancient system at the age of 12 and continued working with numerology until her death at 83.

Using the numerical definitions in this article you will find that the numbers can be applied to the art of astrology in several ways. In natal charts they can offer more insights as to the characteristics of a person. In horary astrology numerical information may help confirm the answers one may be looking for. In an effort to rectify a chart the added information could lead to a proper conclusion. Just looking numerically at the month day and year of someone's birth date can reveal volumes about them through careful application of the information presented here.

The definitions you will find here have been reduced to their fundamentals. That is, like with any language you have root meanings from which other defined applications emerge. The same is true with the numbers: The twenty-six letters of the English alphabet can fill an entire dictionary. This is also true with the numbers 0 through 9. When used in varied combinations the numbers through translation could fill a dictionary as well. Since we are dealing with astrological applications the numbers covered here will be 0 through 59 for the degrees and the minutes of a planet's location. These definitions can be used for the day's months and years as well.

In order to show how the numbers can work out I'd like to share with you some insights I found through the numbers in my own astrology chart. For starters, in my natal chart I have Jupiter, ruler of publishing, in the first house at 12 degrees and 21minutes. Numerically speaking the number 12 can indicate light writing and the 21 offers a metaphysical tone. With that information at hand, it becomes a natural numerical conclusion that I could engage in writing articles like this one. That same natal Aries Jupiter is in trine aspect to my natal Jupiter ruled Sagittarius mid-heaven, offering the astrological opportunity for potential publication of articles. Once I started to compile information for this piece, I realized through examining the numbers in comparison between two natal charts how my wife and I can be totally on the same page about a subject and still disagree. I'm willing to bet that any astrologer would say that a married couple with their Mercury placements at an exact square between the two fixed sign of Aquarius and Scorpio could easily have conflicting ideas. With both of our Mercury placements at 13 degrees, we really think alike numerically speaking. Our mutual Mercury placements have a numerical indication that we both think "outside of the box".

One other thing about the numbers is that they don't lie. Judgment calls are stripped away, and the bottom line is plainly revealed when using this system of numerology. A case in point is this: Miss Norris once read for a lady and told her that she would lose weight and be chauffeur driven about town soon. Apparently, the lady was quite pleased with the prospect of losing weight and being treated so well. Marie's reading was correct and actually very specific...you see the client died a few weeks later. For sure, she lost a lot of weight and was chauffeur driven right through the heart of town to the cemetery.

Let's look at a couple of charts and the numerical information within them. Our first chart to examine will be American artist Andy Warhol. Born in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania on August 6, 1928, at 6:30 AM (EDT). Source, Astro-Databank. Rodden rating 'B'.

Starting with his 13 degree Sun in Leo you can rest assured he lived outside of the box. Andy’s astrologically positioned numbers reveal a rebel at heart. That rebellious nature is emotionally validated by his numerical 13-degree Moon in Aries. The two luminaries make a lovely natal trine aspect between each other. From this you could deduce a numerical diagnosis that his physical heart and emotional soul were numerically in harmony with one another. So where's the numerical description of an artist in his natal chart you may ask? That is where the ascendant comes in. Astrologically speaking, the ascendant represents the way the world sees him and Andy’s ascendant is at 14 degrees....the number of the artist! His chart has a 1st house 23 degree Venus. The 23 is a numerical indication of the need for personal freedom. As it is well known, Andy Warhol never married and remained a free spirit throughout his life and career. Neptune, the ruler of artists and his natal Pisces 8th house, is in his 1st house at 28 degrees of Leo. This combination of numerical clues alongside the astrological influence translates to "a personal windfall of other people’s money via art". The (28) is numerically synonymous with 'a windfall', and residing in his first house makes this windfall personal. Although Andy's 8th house is empty Neptune's rulership there assures an abundance of other people’s monies. Another planet with a natal 28 degree placement is Mars. As you might expect the square formed by the 28 degree Mars in Taurus and the 28 degree Neptune in Leo could be problematic and yet it becomes somewhat supportive in a symbiotic way. Andy's astrological challenges brought about by his tenth house successes in art in square aspect to his first house Neptune placement could be defined numerically and astrologically like this: The tenth house Mars at 28 degrees 14 minutes indicates a windfall (28) of status (tenth house) related to art (14) through his actions (Mars). The first house Neptune at 28 degrees 20 minutes indicates windfall type benefits (28) as an artist (Neptune) received personally (first house) while incurring drug problems as indicated by the (20). The combination of Neptune in his first house at 28 degrees 20 minutes alone would say that he was destined to deal with a windfall of drugs that often accompany fame and fortune. The square aspect to his natal Mars could point out the potential complications it could do to his tenth house public status as well as his physical status.

To gain numerical insights as to Andy's mental approach to life one might consider looking at his 12th house Mercury in Leo. His 3-degree 10 minute 12th house Mercury portends a creative mind (3) that is able to achieve his ambitions (10). Mercury's 12th house placement astrologically indicates a shy solitary psyche. His 7 degree 9 minute 9th house Uranus in Aries supports his artistic ties to the advertising world. He may be best known for the commercialization of modern art by mimicking the advertising arts. The number for the arts is represented by the number 7, the 9 embodies the sometimes-bitter attitude that artists are at times known to possess. The number that represents Uranus is 7 which gives extra emphasis to Uranus's and Andy's eccentric philosophy.

After looking at the numerical equivalents in his astrological chart, it is obvious that Andy Warhol dealt with all his challenges and achieved all the successes his natal chart offered during his incarnation here on Earth.

Our next chart for your consideration is that of a contemporary American billionaire Bill Gates. His chart is an excellent one for this study for two reasons. The first one is the numbers involved in the day, Month and year that he was born. The second of course are the numbers in his natal chart: Born in Seattle, Washington on October 28, 1955, at 9:59:55 PM (PST). Source, Astro-Databank. Rodden Rating 'A'.

Starting with his birthday of 10/28/1955 one can numerically see a person that is able to achieve his ambitions via the (10), subject to a windfall with the (28), and one that can collect money by means of the (55). Not all birth date numbers are as explicit as Mr. Gate's, and you have to incorporate the astrological chart for a full analysis. However, you will find a great deal of supportive information can be derived from this numerical source alone.

Bill Gates's astrological chart accentuates the numerical vibrations found in his birth date and year. As far as looking for the numerical source of his wealth you need look no further than his second house Leo Pluto placement at that fortune indicator of 28 degrees. The 21-minute added to the Pluto equation may not lead you to a metaphysical connotation, but it could possibly lead to a secretive one. After all, who would want anyone in their personal business? Jupiter placed right alongside his Pluto has the numbers of 27 degrees and 47 minutes. The number 27 can, represent the adventurer or risk taker and the number 47 can indicate accomplishments. That powerhouse combo in his natal second house of personal wealth translates numerically as one that takes risk and by those risks has had accomplishments and from those accomplishments has received great benefits. The first house Uranus at 2 degrees 17 minutes of Leo states that he was personally involved in building an electronic nervous system (Uranus and 17 together) through cooperation with others (2).

In order to see where he focuses his domestic energy, we need to examine his natal Mars at 10 degrees 9 minutes of Libra. Located in his 4th house, you will find he is busy building his estate (4th house) on acreage (9) as a sign of achievement (10). Opposite his Mars you will see his natal Moon at 8 degrees 9 minutes of Aries in the 10th house.

The number 8 can have a meaning of prominence and in this case the number 9 could carry the vibratory equivalent of a humanitarian. You can see how those numerical meanings and astrological overtones have evolved into very public humanitarian effort for better health and well-being via the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

The 5-degree 2-minute Scorpio Sun is also in his 4th house. Numerically speaking this denotes a person that is also at home and in a home with appointments that are both harmonious and beautiful by nature (5). Adding the number 2 vibrational quality to the Sun's placement you may surmise a home with gold gilt furnishings and maybe even golden yellow draperies (2) outlining picturesque views of manicured grounds (5).

His 5th house Venus at 20 degrees 14 minutes of Scorpio could imply that he enjoys fine (Venus) wine (20). An indication provided by the 14 minutes of Venus sitting next to his Saturn could astrologically/numerically indicate that any indulgence in this arena is tempered. The same 5th house Saturn could numerically furnish insights as to his speculative nature. Conservative Saturn, co-ruler of Aquarius, land of electronics, with a 21-degree 35-minute placement would indicate an attitude of secrecy (21) alongside a great deal of research/learning (35) when it comes to speculative 5th house ventures.

Finally, you will see that he has a 28-degree Neptune just as Andy Warhol had. Of course, being born many years apart Neptune is in different signs, but the 28-degree Neptune has similar qualities. In Andy's case his 1st house 28-degree Neptune afforded him a chance to benefit tremendously from his gift as an artistic visionary. In Bill Gates case the 4th house 28-degree Neptune has delivered a dream home that befits a billionaire.

Other information can be seen in the combination of numerical degrees of a planet, the character of the planet itself and the nature of the house or cusp involved. This multi-layered source of information can add amazing emphasis to the chart's interpretation. For instance, you might judge a subject as lucky if you saw their first house contained a natal 28-degree Jupiter as both the number 28 and Jupiter can denote good fortune. Another example could be a combination of Venus on a subject's ascendant at 5 degrees of Libra. A combination such as this could produce the potential facial features of a quintessential beauty.

A dreadful example of a combination of planet and numbers can be seen in the chart of the accused Paris terrorist

Salah Ablesam: Born Brussels, Belgium on September 15, 1989, at 3:48:55 PM (CEDT). Source: Internet photo of I.D., time chosen by author. Here you will witness a Pluto at 13 degrees of Scorpio. Pluto in Scorpio at 13 degrees is about as deadly as you can get when combined with a few other astrological and numerical ingredients. That's all the text I care to give this subject.

In reading the numbers I recommend that you take time to surmise your numerical conclusions: Like words, numbers arranged differently can mean totally different things. For example, take the sentence; Look ahead in the road Now, the same letters in an almost identical sequence form this sentence, look, a head in the road Those two very different sentences use the same letters. The important point here is that you must look for a meaningful syntax before drawing a numerical conclusion.

You will also find that numerical meanings can vary, and the connections can be challenging at first. For example: The number 21 can represent the metaphysical as well as secrets, but it can also represent air travel. The number 13 can represent the free thinking and the rebellious doctrines that created The United States of America. It can also represent a criminal element. Another point to consider is the variation that can occur in reading the birth date numbers. At times you may find a person born on the 28th to have the characteristics of someone born on the 27th or 29th, so offer up a little latitude during your research here.

One other note: These definitions are not from a system referred to as universal numerology although some meanings may have similarities.

The Definitions:

0 The zero is perhaps the most interesting number of all. It represents something that is not. It can also represent a hole in the ground, a void in time.
